Glasses and contact lens prescriptions

Contact lens fitting and aftercare

Digital retinal photography

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) scans to detect conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration

Children's eye examinations

Home (domiciliary) eye tests for people who cannot travel to an optician

Typical private costs:

Standard eye test: approximately £20–£45 ($26.86-$60.43)

Enhanced eye exam with OCT scan: approximately £35–£69 ($47-$92.66)

Specialist private hospital eye assessment: from around £150 for an initial consultation, with additional charges for advanced diagnostic tests if needed. ($201.43)

Many well-known providers offer private eye exams, including:

Specsavers

Boots Opticians

Vision Express

ASDA Opticians

Independent opticians

Moorfields Private for specialist assessments.

A private eye examination usually takes 20–45 minutes, depending on whether additional tests such as OCT imaging are included. Even if you have your eye test privately, you are entitled to receive your prescription and are not required to buy glasses from the practice where you were tested.
